Overview

i-Tree Landscape has 5 stages represented by the blue progress bar below the map.
Move between stages: click Next or Back buttons or click a step under the Progress Bar.
The control panel on the right lists map layers and map tools.

Stage 1: Find Locations

Use the Search box or simply zoom/pan to your desired map area. Turn boundary layers on/off to refine your project extents. Choose a boundary area to analyze from that drop-down list and switch between the Navigate and the Select / Box Select map tools to select individual boundary areas to Process.

Stage 2: Explore Location Data

Pertinent information about your boundary area selection(s) are displayed below the map in data tables and graphs. This information comes from a wide variety of sources: References.

Stage 3: See Tree Benefits

i-Tree^® benefit estimates are calculated from tree canopy cover for selected boundary areas and displayed in data tables and graphs below the map in amounts (pounds, gallons, etc.) and US dollar values. These include the ecosystem services provided by trees such as carbon sequestration, pollution removal, and hydrology impacts. References.

Stage 4: Prioritize Tree Planting

Target tree planting and protection to promote sustainable tree benefits in areas most valuable to people using the common Scenarios based on Population, Minorities, or Poverty for quick results. Create Custom scenarios by following the instructions on the page. Priority areas are displayed on the map, table, and quadrant scatter plot.

Stage 5: Build A Report

Use templates or customize elements from the Location Information, Tree Benefits, or Planting Prioritization stages. Within each section, configure Report Elements as directed and include each with the + Add button. Your elements will be listed below the configuration section. When ready, use the Build Report button to view the finished report. Print the report via your web browser or publicly Publish it on our server; go Back to modify report elements.

Helpful Hints

You can combine selections from different boundary layers (ex: mix and match selecting counties with watersheds).
Make changes to your boundary area selections at any stage - just use the Process button to update the map and tables.
You can even open different stages in separate web-browser windows or tabs!
While exploring the tool, start with just a few boundary area selections for the best performance.

Limitations

Large quantities of boundary area selections may take several minutes to process. Processing that exceeds 30 minutes will halt due to server resource limits.
Maximum number of selections: a handful of states, a few hundred counties, or less than a thousand block groups. These are subject to change.
Your computer and internet connection may only be able to handle a smaller number than these maximums.
If you receive a Timeout error, please try Reloading the page once or twice. As some calculations are cached; it may be possible to finish the remainder. If the problem persists, visit the homepage and use the Project menu > Start Over button and then split your analysis area into smaller sub-projects.
Metered Connection Warning: i-Tree Landscape is data intensive and not recommended for data plans that charge based on consumption.

Developed, Open Space	Areas with a mixture of some constructed materials, but mostly vegetation in the form of lawn grasses. Impervious surfaces account for less than 20% of total cover. These areas most commonly include large-lot single-family housing units, parks, golf courses, and vegetation planted in developed settings for recreation, erosion control, or aesthetic purposes.
Developed, Low Intensity	Areas with a mixture of constructed materials and vegetation. Impervious surfaces account for 20% to 49% percent of total cover. These areas most commonly include single-family housing units.
Developed, Medium Intensity	Areas with a mixture of constructed materials and vegetation. Impervious surfaces account for 50% to 79% of the total cover. These areas most commonly include single-family housing units.
Developed, High Intensity	Highly developed areas where people reside or work in high numbers. Examples include apartment complexes, row houses and commercial/industrial. Impervious surfaces account for 80% to 100% of the total cover.
Deciduous Forest	Areas dominated by trees generally greater than 5 meters tall, and greater than 20% of total vegetation cover. More than 75% of the tree species shed foliage simultaneously in response to seasonal change.
Evergreen Forest	Areas dominated by trees generally greater than 5 meters tall, and greater than 20% of total vegetation cover. More than 75% of the tree species maintain their leaves all year. Canopy is never without green foliage.
Mixed Forest	Areas dominated by trees generally greater than 5 meters tall, and greater than 20% of total vegetation cover. Neither deciduous nor evergreen species are greater than 75% of total tree cover.
Dwarf Scrub	Alaska only areas dominated by shrubs less than 20 centimeters tall with shrub canopy typically greater than 20% of total vegetation. This type is often co-associated with grasses, sedges, herbs, and non-vascular vegetation.
Shrub/Scrub	Areas dominated by shrubs; less than 5 meters tall with shrub canopy typically greater than 20% of total vegetation. This class includes true shrubs, young trees in an early successional stage or trees stunted from environmental conditions.
Grassland/Herbaceous	Areas dominated by gramanoid or herbaceous vegetation, generally greater than 80% of total vegetation. These areas are not subject to intensive management such as tilling, but can be utilized for grazing.
Sedge/Herbaceous	Alaska only areas dominated by sedges and forbs, generally greater than 80% of total vegetation. This type can occur with significant other grasses or other grass like plants, and includes sedge tundra, and sedge tussock tundra.
Lichens	Alaska only areas dominated by fruticose or foliose lichens generally greater than 80% of total vegetation.
Moss	Alaska only areas dominated by mosses, generally greater than 80% of total vegetation.
Pasture/Hay	Areas of grasses, legumes, or grass-legume mixtures planted for livestock grazing or the production of seed or hay crops, typically on a perennial cycle. Pasture/hay vegetation accounts for greater than 20% of total vegetation.
Cultivated Crops	Areas used for the production of annual crops, such as corn, soybeans, vegetables, tobacco, and cotton, and also perennial woody crops such as orchards and vineyards. Crop vegetation accounts for greater than 20% of total vegetation. This class also includes all land being actively tilled.
Barren Land (Rock/Sand/Clay)	Areas of bedrock, desert pavement, scarps, talus, slides, volcanic material, glacial debris, sand dunes, strip mines, gravel pits and other accumulations of earthen material. Generally, vegetation accounts for less than 15% of total cover.
Woody Wetlands	Areas where forest or shrubland vegetation accounts for greater than 20% of vegetative cover and the soil or substrate is periodically saturated with or covered with water.
Emergent Herbaceous Wetlands	Areas where perennial herbaceous vegetation accounts for greater than 80% of vegetative cover and the soil or substrate is periodically saturated with or covered with water.
Open Water	Areas of open water, generally with less than 25% cover of vegetation or soil.
Perennial Ice/Snow	Areas characterized by a perennial cover of ice and/or snow, generally greater than 25% of total cover.
